Ralph Cox

Ralph L. Cox, 84, of Belleville, Ill., born Dec. 26, 1929, in Carterville, Ill., died Sunday, August 10, 2014, at Cedarhurst Assisted Living, Shiloh, Ill.

Mr. Cox served 39 years in education with 32 years as school superintendent of Belle Valley School District 119. He was a member and past president of the Belleville Rotary Club, past president of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, past president of the St. Clair County School Administrators, past President of the St. Clair County Retired Teachers Association, board member of the Illinois Association of School Administrators, past Vice President of Hospice of Southern Illinois, past treasurer of the St. Clair Township Lighting District and a member of Belleville Elks Lodge 481 and American Legion Belleville Post 58. Ralph was also a member of many other civic organizations and humanitarian boards. A strong proponent of education, Ralph lobbied in Springfield for many educational issues. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Mary, nee Rushing, Cox; a sister, Pauline Brown; and two brothers, Buster Cox and Bobby Cox.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Teresa, nee Monolo, Cox, whom he married March 15, 1952; three children, Gary Lee (Karen) Cox, Linda Sue (Scott) Pearson, and Jeffrey Allen (Krissa) Cox, all of Belleville, Ill.; six grandchildren, Kyle Thomas (Emily) Pearson, Angela Nicole Pearson, Zachary Alexander Cox, Robert Scott Pearson, Logan Allen Cox, and Caden Maxwell Cox; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Cooper Pearson and James George Pearson; and nieces and nephews.

Ralph loved life. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved bowling, fishing, and his Friday night beer and fish. Ralph will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2014, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2014, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., with Rev. Keith Bunfill officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
