Ray I. Thomas died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, in Belleville, Ill. He was 90 years old.
Ray was born June 19, 1923, in East St. Louis, Ill. He was a retired postal security officer and had worked for the United States Post Office for 16 years and for Mobil Oil Corporation for 22 years. Ray also owned and operated Safari Mobile Home Park in Fairmont City, Ill., for many years.
Ray was a member of First Baptist Church in Fairview Heights and a veteran of the Army Air Corps. During World War II, Ray and his twin brother, Roy flew more than two dozen B-17 bombing missions over Germany.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene, nee Garner, Thomas; parents, Grover C. and Mishel, nee Hunt, Thomas; brothers, Robert, Roy and James Thomas; and his sister, Roberta Tyson.
Surviving are his daughter, Dr. Gail Thomas and son-in-law, Jim Moore of Belleville, Ill.; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
Ray and Charlene enjoyed traveling the United States in their camper. Ray was a lifelong Cardinals baseball fan.

Visitation: Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Kurrus Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Doug Nicely officiating. Interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
