Vernon Boeschen

Vernon W. Boeschen, 83, of Belleville, Ill., born Nov. 4, 1930, in Venedy, Ill., died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at St. Paul's Home, Belleville, Ill.

A former professional baseball player for the St. Louis Browns, Mr. Boeschen was the co-owner, with his wife, Shirley, of Jean's Uniform Shop in Belleville, Ill. He later retired from St. Paul Apartments as their apartment manager.

Vernon was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, Ill., St. Clair Masonic Lodge 24, the Scottish Rite Bodies of Southern Illinois, and the Ainad Shriners. He was a member of Carpenters Local 433, Belleville-Swansea Moose Lodge 1221, American Legion Belleville Post 58, and VFW Belleville Post 1739. He had served as president of the St. Paul Home Board of Directors and as president of the Belleville Exchange Club. Mr. Boeschen was a 4-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. and Lillian, nee Runge, Boeschen; and two brothers, Leslie and Ralph Boeschen.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Shirley J., nee Wagner, Boeschen, whom he married Dec. 6, 1952; a daughter and two sons, Cheryl J. (Mark) Toler of Des Peres, Mo., David W. (Rebecca) Boeschen of Belleville, Ill., and James L. (Caryn) Boeschen of Columbia, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Sean Toler, Jack Toler,

Brooks Boeschen, Jillian and Grace Boeschen, and Parks and Phoebe Boeschen; nieces and nephews; and cousins.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at St. Paul United Church of Christ with Rev. Drew Kramer officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Ill.
