Wilmont Roy "Monty" Striegel, 77, of Mt. Olive, Ill., born April 20, 1935, in Litchfield, Ill., died on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, in the emergency room at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, Ill.
Mr. Striegel attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the Class of 1953, he then attended Browns Business College.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mt. Olive, IL. and was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Staunton, Ill., where he was an usher, on the Board of Trustees and the Personnel Committee. He was an Illinois State Trooper for more than 33 years retiring in 1991. He owned and operated Striegel's Tree Service for 34 years.
He had enlisted in the United States Marines in August of 1954 and was honorably discharged in August of 1957. He was a member of Troopers Lodge No. 41, the Fraternal Order of Police, serving on the Board of Trustees, member and adjutant for Yurkovich - Beck American Legion Post No. 594, a member and chaplain for Mt.Olive VFW POST No. 5790, he headed up the burial detail and presented the flag to many veterans families and was a "Bingo Captain," he was a volunteer Mt. Olive Fireman and an institutional representative for the Boy Scouts.
Monty ran in the Special Olympics, grew his own grapes and loved making wine, gardening, loved canning hot peppers and herb tomato juice. Enjoyed reading about war history. Monty and Norene enjoyed traveling all over the United States when their children were younger and in retirement they saw the world, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Turkey, Italy, Greece, Tahiti, Germany, Nova Scotia and other Canadian Provinces.
"Monty" was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer Striegel and Myrtle Zwischenberger Striegel Mejaski; and step-father, William Mejaski.
Surviving are his wife, Norene Ruth, nee Sauerwein, Striegel of Mount Olive, Ill., whom he married on June 24, 1961, in the Zion Lutheran Church, Bunker Hill, Ill.; three sons, Monte Striegel of Bocca Raton, Fla., Kurt (Pamela) Striegel of Belleville, Ill., and Lt. Col. Bradley (Angela) Striegel of Ohau, Hawaii; daughter, Dr. Kristi-Anne Striegel of Reno, Nev.; three brothers, Ralph Striegel of Loves Park, Ill., Leonard Striegel of Mt. Olive, Ill., and Larry (Mary) Striegel of Louisville, Ky.; four grandchildren, Sara, Matthew, Luke and Jack.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Area Veterans Hall, Zion Lutheran Church, Staunton, Ill., Mt. Olive Library, Mt. Olive Academic Foundation, Mt. Olive Fire Department or Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Mt. Olive, Ill.

Friends may also call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church, Staunton, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church, Staunton, Ill., with the Rev. Joe Fritsche officiating. Burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Mt. Olive, Ill.
