Woodrow Dilday

Woodrow C. Dilday, 82, of Granite City, Ill., born Aug. 14, 1931, in Cora, Ill., passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, at his home.

Woodrow was a Korean War veteran who proudly served in the United States Marines. On July 3, 1954, Woodrow married June Owensby, the love of his life in Ellis Grove, Ill. He was a faithful member of West 22nd Street Baptist Church in Granite City, Ill., and was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Glen Carbon, Ill. Woodrow had worked as a lithograph operator for Madison Metal Decorating for 26 years. He then worked as a laborer/foreman out of the Glen Carbon hall. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Woodrow will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sherry Lynn Dilday; parents, George Calvin and Mary Marjorie, nee Krug, Dilday; three sisters, Winona, Opal Mae and Dorothy Marie; and four brothers, Bill, Calvin, Russell and Jack.

Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, June Dilday of Granite City, Ill.; two dear sons, Jeff (Vicki) Dilday Sr. and Durand Dilday both of Granite City, Ill.; brother, George (Charlotte) Dilday of Granite City, Ill.; four grandchildren, Ashley Nichole (Josh) Bain, Jennifer Lynn Israel, Jeffrey Lee (Kelly) Dilday Jr., and Suzanne Heuer; five great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, Ill., with Pastor Keith Braddock officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo., with military honors provided by the United States Marines.
