Corrine Elaine Slate passed away May 8, 2014, in Bellingham. She was born to George and Marie Slate, June 7, 1934. Her love for animals started as a child and she almost always had a pet, usually a cat. Corrine started working at the Bellingham Public Library as a page when she was in High School. Corrine enjoyed working on the Bookmobile as it provided books throughout Whatcom County. She graduated from Western Washington University after a year at Simpson Bible School. She was an elementary school teacher with a Master's Degree in Library Science. She taught or served as librarian in schools in the Highline District, and Blaine Elementary School, Sunnyland School and Shuksan Middle School in Whatcom County. She retired from education after thirty-six years. Throughout her life, Corrine enjoyed travel with family and friends, and eating out with friends. She lived in Burien, Washington, for many years and was a member of Kent Alliance Church. In 2010 she moved to Bellingham and became a member of the Northside Community Church. Her sister Dolores Vanstone and many favorite nephews and nieces survive her. The family wishes to thank the professional staff at Emeritus Assisted Living Facility and Hospice House for their loving care. The graveside service will be Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at 1 pm at the Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham followed by a memorial service to celebrate her life at 2 pm in the Bayview Chapel.
