Gene Francis Emmons, of Bellingham, WA, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at his home. He was 81, born in Bellingham on May 28, 1932 to Luie F. and Mary (Goenen) Emmons. Gene graduated in 1951 from Bellingham High School. He enlisted in the US Navy following graduation, serving for four years. Gene married his high school sweetheart Elaine M. Nelson on December 27, 1952. He was an excellent Service Technician for Sears for 40 years. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. But his life revolved around his wife, children, grandchildren and recently, his great-grandson. He had many friends and enjoyed so many adventures which included canoeing, cross-country skiing and boating. In the last few years, as he slowed down, he enjoyed many summer months at the family's property in Carlton, WA. He was a man with integrity, compassion and an excellent work ethic. He was quick to laugh and slow to anger. He always had a twinkle in his eye. He was gone too soon. Gene is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elaine; his two children, Mark (Debra) Emmons and Rae (Mark) Wilson; 3 grandchildren, Rory (Ellen) Emmons, Sara Wilson and Hayley Wilson; great grand son Cillian Emmons; his sister-in-law Shirley Emmons and too many nieces and nephews to list here. Memorials maybe made to the Alzheimer Society. A Memorial Service will be held, 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 24th at Moles Farewell Tributes on Lakeway Dr. in Bellingham.
