Howard L Harrington died Monday November 18, 2013, surrounded by loving family. He was born January 14, 1930, in Oshkosh, NE in Garden County to Preston and Erma (Williamson) Harrington. He graduated from Trenton, Nebraska high school in 1947 and from the Electronic and Television Institute in Omaha, NE. Upon graduating he began a career in broadcasting including positions as chief engineer in Kansas and Nebraska.. He served two years in the Army with the 2nd Armored Division during the Korean War. While working at KGFW in Kearney, NE he met and married Bonnie Tucker of Loup City, NE. In 1955 they moved to Ogallala, NE where he was Chief Engineer and Program Director for Radio Station KOGA. He began employment as an engineer for Ogallala Electronics in 1965, later he was named General Manager and then served as Division Manager for Arnold Engineering. He retired from Arnold Engineering in 1992. Mr. Harrington was a member of the United Methodist Church serving on various boards; he was treasurer of Lions Club; served as president of Rotary Club; Past Master of Masonic Lodge #159; Past Patron of Ogallala Chapter 142, Order of Eastern Star on two occasions; was a member of the Scottish Rite Shrine. He was named by Governor Ben Nelson to the Nebraska Private Industry Council for 13 years and served as Chairman in 1991. This included his chairmanship of the Jobs Training program. Mr. and Mrs. Harrington enjoyed his retirement years traveling to over 40 countries and each of the United States .Of special importance to him were family gatherings of four generations for holidays and for fishing trips. In 2003 they moved to Bellingham, WA where they volunteered at the Mount Baker Theatre as ushers and hosts of members' receptions. They were named to the Peace Health Medical Group Center for Senior Health Advisory Board in 2004. Harrington served as single lay person to the Center for Senior Health Medical staff board and as lay person to the Whatcom Peace Health Medical Group Planned Care Leadership Team. Mr. and Mrs. Harrington are members of the Birchwood Presbyterian Church in Bellingham. A family celebration of Howard's life will be held at a later date. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; son Mark and his wife Marlane of Freeland, WA; daughter Jill and husband Mike Allemandi of Wenatchee, WA; granddaughter Jami and her husband Nick Bean of Spokane, WA, grandson Drew and wife Kristin Allemandi of Camano Island,, WA. and great grandsons Rowan and Cooper Bean of Spokane; sisters- in- law Jan Tenski of Farmington, NM; and Jaci and husband Mike Nichols of Livermore CA; brothers- in- law Lloyd and wife Barbara Tucker of Farmington, NM and Jerry and wife Kathy Tucker of Tucson, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews.
