Iris R. Sherfey of Bellingham WA passed away peacefully on April 30, 2014 at the Christian Heath Care facility in Lynden, WA. Her parents, Jacob Albert Rose and Ivy (Russell) Rose, welcomed Iris into the world on March 26, 1922 in Sawyerville IL. She graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit MI in 1939. After working at a factory during the war years, she became a home maker when she married Charles R. Sherfey, SR in Toledo OH on June 12, 1946. Iris maintained a wide range of interests while raising a family of seven children. She was a member of the Silver Bells and Gentleman Friends Vocal Group as well as belonging to the VFW Women's Auxiliary in Custer WA. She enjoyed writing poetry and became a published poet. One of her favorite past times was crafting holiday and birthday cards. She was a member of RLDS and Community of Christ Church. Iris will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a faithful friend and volunteered her services where ever needed. Iris loved hockey and was an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings fan for 70 years. She is survived by her sister Gwen Bergen of California, her sons Charles Sherfey of Bellingham WA, George Sherfey of Detroit MI, and James Sherfey (wife Tracy) of Bellingham WA and her daughters Eva Villanueva of Atlanta GA, Susan Kelly Stewart (husband Eric) of Bellingham WA, Charlene Sherfey-Schroeder (husband Tim) of Laughlin NV and 17 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter Jackye Lynn Norman of Boston, MA. Arrangements are being made through Jerns Funeral Chapel. A memorial service for family members and friends will be later this month. The family wishes to thank Lynden Christian Health Care Center for the wonderful care they provided Iris.
