Valarie "Corrinne" Petras

1926 - 2014

Valarie "Corrinne" Petras was born on November 11, 1926, in Sumas WA and passed away on July 8, 2014, at Highland Care Center in Bellingham WA. Corrinne grew up as an only child on the family farm in Sumas and spent most of her life in Whatcom County. She also lived at various times in Chicago, Phoenix, and Boulder CO. She loved to travel and enjoyed socializing with her family and friends. Corrinne worked in retail for many years before taking the job that became "the highlight of her life," working the night shift in the emergency room at St. Luke's Hospital, where she frequently treated the staff, local police officers, and EMTs to her delicious homemade cooking. Corrinne had a sharp wit and always spoke her mind. She was a great story-teller and loved to recount her family's history and events from her own past. She saw her ability to laugh as her saving grace in life. Corrinne was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Margaret Days of Sumas, and her husband, Vincent "Pete" Petras. She is survived by her three children, Wayne Petras of Bellingham, Natasha "Shirley" Green of Los Angeles, and John Petras of Bellingham, grandchildren Lex and Ben (Skye) Petras, Jason, Scott, and Brittany Green, and five great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the gentle and compassionate care Corrinne received while residing at Highland Care Center.
