1935-2013 BENNINGTON David H. Berry, 78, a resident of Morgan Street, died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a day of deer hunting with his friends. David was born in St. Albans on May 1, 1935, he was the only child born to Ralph and Eunice (Dunton) Berry. He grew up in St. Albans graduating from Bellows Free Academy. He entered the Navy where he served in the Mediterranean aboard the USS Achernar. Following his discharge he attended Vermont Technical College where he received a degree in Electronics. David married the former Jo Stroffoleno at the Federated Church of East Arlington on September 24, 1960. David had worked with electronics throughout his life at Tansitor Electronics, Jard Inc., and retired from Northern Lights Fiber Optic. He was a member of the Mt. Anthony Lodge F&AM, a supporter of the Shriners, and he was also a member of the NRA. For many years he was a regular blood donor to the American Red Cross where he donated several gallons throughout the years. As a Red Cross volunteer at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center he worked in patients homes installing Lifeline devices. He enjoyed hunting , especially the many years he had spent with his friends and family at deer camp in West Arlington where he was on Tuesday. He enjoyed being physically active in running, biking and swimming, David had participated in many marathons, half marathons and triathlons. He and his wife, Jo had traveled abroad visiting several countries. He will be remembered as a good father who adored his granddaughters, children and family. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Jo Berry; son, Craig Berry; daughter, Nicole Berry Dodge; granddaughters, Larisa Angela Dodge and Katherine Renee Bruneau all of Bennington. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Monday November 25 at 1 p.m. at the Chapel on the Green in West Arlington. Masonic Funeral Rites will be held prior to the service at 12:50 p.m. The family will receive friends at the Chapel from noon until the service time. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the West Arlington Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to either The Chapel on the Green or American Red Cross in care of HANSON WALBRIDGE & SHEA FUNERAL HOME, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT. 05201.
