Ronald S. Stratton

1948-2013 BENNINGTON Ronald S. Stratton, 64, a resident of Bell Street, died unexpectedly Thursday November 21, 2013 at his residence. Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts December 20, 1948, he was the son of the late Robert S. Stratton and the former Margaret (Lyons) Stratton Riley. He received his education in the Bennington schools and received his bachelor's degree from Southern Vermont College in 1983. A Vietnam veteran, Ron served in the Army from 1966 to 1970 as a paratrooper and received two purple hearts for gallantry in action with the 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning". For many years Ron worked in the food service industry in the Atlanta, Georgia area before retiring and returning to Bennington. Ron was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bennington. He enjoyed fishing, stamp collecting, reading, cooking and playing cribbage with his family and friends. Survivors include a sister, Marlene Sauer of Corinth, New York; a sister and brother, Virginia Berard and Robert Stratton, both of Bennington; and his pal and confidant, Smitty Stratton of Bennington. Also left behind are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ron was predeceased by six sisters and brothers, Janet M. Stratton, Helen Groesbeck, Ellen Welch, Donald H, Mark J. and Herb Stratton. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013 at the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery, at 11 a.m. Should friends desire contributions in Ronald S.
