William Westlake

1929 - 2014 DORSET William Paul Westlake, 85, a resident of Meadow Lane, passed away Aug. 10, 2014 at Albany Medical Center. Bill was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 2, 1929 the son of Paul M. and Vera (Huet) Westlake. Bill graduated from William Penn Senior High School. He was awarded a four year scholarship by the Philadelphia Alumni of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy, N.Y. and was also the recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award Medal for achieving the highest scholastic record in Sciences during his high school courses. He also received the Engineering Society of New York scientific award. He received his Bachelor in Electronic Engineering from RPI and his MBA from Harvard University. Bill worked for Westinghouse his entire working career, retiring as Division General Manager at Westinghouse in Bloomington, Ind. Bill was a member of the Dorset Field Club where he enjoyed golfing, playing tennis and paddle tennis. Bill enjoyed woodworking and ceramic pottery. He was an avid reader and enjoyed photography, painting with water colors and listening to symphony and classical music. Bill is survived by his children, Scott Westlake of Winfield, Ill. and Barbara Westlake-Hickey and her husband, Chuck of Louisville, Ky., and grandchildren Katie and Emily Westlake and Anne and Caitlin Hickey. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside funeral service for Bill will be held Saturday Aug. 16, 2014 at 12 p.m. in Factory Point Cemetery in Manchester Center, Vt. Visiting hours will be held Saturday Aug. 16, 2014 at BREWSTER SHEA FUNERAL SERVICE from 10 to 11:45 a.m. before the service.
