1929 - 2013 DALTON Andrew Anthony Barna, 83, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Dalton, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in Richmond, Va.

Born in Worcester on Oct. 7, 1929, a son of John and Roselle Barna, he was educated in Cheshire Schools.

A Korea and Viet Nam veteran, Mr. Barna enlisted with the Army on Oct. 16, 1952, served more than five years overseas, was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, and was honorably with the rank of Staff Sergeant on June 1, 1974.

Following military duty, Mr. Barna was the custodian at the American Legion Post 155 in Dalton for 10 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a life member of the American Legion Post 155 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9566 in Dalton.

Mr. Barna's wife, the former Hildegard Emrich, whom he married in 1962, died in 1974.

Mr. Barna is survived by a brother, Frederick Barna, of Dover Plains, N.Y.; a foster sister, Doris Sabin of Dalton; a foster brother, Leo Choquette, of Cheshire; nieces and nephews, and close friends, Renate Kucherov and her dog, Sheba, in Virginia, and Robert Teichert of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services for Andrew A. Barna will be Wednesday, May 1, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield with the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor of St. Agnes Church, officiating. There will be no calling hours.

The omission of flowers is requested. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
