Anthony Costa Sr.

1921 - 2013 GREAT BARRINGTON

Anthony P. Costa Sr., 91, of Division St., died Feb. 4, 2013, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

He was born Sept. 22, 1921, son of Bartolomeo and Serafina Drago Costa. He attended local schools. As a young man, Anthony enjoyed playing basketball and baseball for several Great Barrington leagues.

He proudly served his country during World War II in the Army Medical Corps, 5th Army Division.

He worked for A. J. Magadini & Son Masonry Contractors as a mason for over 50 years.

Anthony is survived by his wife, the former Ann Baumann. Mr. and Mrs. Costa would have been married 66 years on Valentine's Day. Tony is survived by eight children, Anthony P. Costa, Jr., and his significant other, Gloria Evans, Terri Costa-Everett, John F. Costa and his wife, Jane, James J. Costa and his wife, Margaret, Michelle Loubert and her husband, Bruce, Mark T. Costa and his fiance, Diane Clark, Jacqueline J. Costa, and Patricia L. Costa; eight grandchildren, Melissa, Jennifer, Jenna, Lisa, John Jr.(Jay), Reese, Nicholas and Victoria (Tori); two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Julian, and many nieces and nephews.

A granddaughter, Sarah, predeceased him. Tony was also predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Rocco Costa, John Costa, Mary Sini, Rosalie Anselmini, Catherine Babuin, and Caroline Maguire.

Tony loved tending to his beautiful gardens, hunting and fishing. He was very proud of his work as a mason and the many buildings in Great Barrington and elsewhere he worked on over the many years. But most of all, Tony enjoyed sitting outside in his lovely yard, holding hands with his wife.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Anthony P. Costa Sr., who died Feb. 4, will be held on Friday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Church with the Rev. William P. Murphy, pastor, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family will receive friends today, Thursday, Feb. 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME 33 South St., Great Barrington.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Anthony's memory may be made to in care of the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. Condolences may be directed to the family at 70 Division Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
