Charles Glinski Obituary


Charles J. Glinski

1939-2013 WEST SPRINGFIELD Charles J. Glinski, 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Poland on December 24, 1939, son of the late Bronislaw and Anna (Wilk) Glinski, he was a 30 year resident of Pittsfield until recently. During World War II, Charlie and his family were interned in a Russian labor camp in Siberia for two years. After leaving Siberia he was in transition in many countries including Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine. He then went to England in 1947, coming to America and settling in Springfield in 1952. Charlie was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School, and served his country for four years in the Air Force. After discharge Charlie earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of MA, and a Master in Business Administration from Western New England College. He started his career at Hamilton Standard in 1968 and then joined Western Mass Electric Co. in 1970 as an engineer. He held various engineering positions within the company, including manager of customer engineering and marketing services, over his 35 years of service, retiring in 2005. Charlie was a longtime communicant of Holy Family Church in Pittsfield, and most recently of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee. He enjoyed all special times with his family, and also spent many days tending to his vegetable and flower gardens. Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Jane (Lichwala) Glinski; his loving daughters, Sonia G. Blomerth and her husband Brian of Boston, and Tania A. Glinski and her husband Daniel Moy of Medford; cherished grandson, Charlie Blomerth; brother-in-law, Chester Rutkowski, and sisters-in-law, Helena Glinski, Josephine Glinski, Mary Mysliwiec and her husband Lewis, Celia Drobiak and her husband Frank, Stephy Lichwala, and Sophie Lichwala; and several caring nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Rutkowski and his brothers, Michael, Joseph, Tadeusz and Edward Glinski. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Charlie will be held Saturday from KOZIKOWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Calling hours are Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.
