1919 - 2013 HOUSATONIC Chester "Chet" S. Kay, 93, of Oak St., Housatonic, died peacefully at home on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.
He was born in Great Barrington on Feb. 18, 1919, son of Stanley J. and Rosalia Horonzy Kay. He attended local schools. During World War I, he proudly served his country with the 105 Port Marine Maintenance Co, stationed in Antwerp, Belgium. Chester was the recipient of the Purple Heart, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He worked at the former Great Barrington Manufacturing Co, the former Rising Paper Co, and Crane Paper as a Stationary Engineer in the boiler room until his retirement in 1984. He was a communicant of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, Corpus Christi Parish, and the former All Saints Church. Chet enjoyed gardening, flowers and vegetables, and building anything, as he was considered a "Jack of all Trades" by many, and he was very family orientated.
Chester's wife, the former Eleanor Siok whom he married on May 24, 1941 in All Saints Church, predeceased him on Sept. 22, 2005. He leaves two sons, John and his wife Jan of Housatonic, and Andrew and his wife Linda of Richmond; two brothers, Edward J., and Joseph M., both of Great Barrington, and five grandchildren, Christopher, John, Kim Kay Bailly, Denise Kay, and Andrew Jr, and six great grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Eleanor, Chester was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Aleksander, and four sisters, Regina, Alice, Sadie, and Bessie.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Chester "Chet" S. Kay, who died Feb. 15, will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 10 AM in Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church, with the Rev. William P. Murphy, pastor, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday, Feb. 18, from 4-6 PM at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME.
