Harry E. Davine

1925-2014 PITTSFIELD Harry E. Davine, a long-time resident of Oak Hill Road, Pittsfield, died Monday, February 3, 2014 at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility following a long illness. He had been residing at Mt Greylock Extended Care since January, 2005. Born on December 28, 1925 in North Adams, son of Harry E. Davine, Sr. and Anne E (Windrow) Davine, he was a 1943 graduate of Drury High School. A World War II veteran, he entered the Army in January 1944, and served in Europe with Company I, 329th Infantry, 83rd Division. He received a purple heart for wounds occurred in the Battle of the Bulge. He later served with the National Guard 3rd Battalion 104th Infantry for 25 years and retired with the rank of Major. Mr. Davine was a graduate of the GE Apprentice Program in 1951 and held various positions at GE Transformer and Ordnance Departments. He retired in 1986 with 35 years of service. After retiring he occupied much of his time volunteering. An animal lover, he helped organize and served as an original board member of the Berkshire Humane Society. He later became an active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow retirees. He also worked on numerous Elfun Society projects. He was a communicant of St. Stephens Episcopal Church. He was an avid reader and loved books on the Civil War and political history. He was also a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and faithfully watched every game during last year's championship season. His wife, Elaine "Nan" B. (Fountain) Davine died in 1996. They were married in the former St. Francis of Assisi in North Adams on August 25, 1951. He is survived by four sons, Gary M. Davine and his wife Denise of Jupiter Fla., Brian E. Davine of Pittsfield, Mark W. Davine of Cooperstown, N.Y., and Bruce A. Davine and his wife Jodi, also of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren, Daniel, Kevin, Michael, Ryan, Jay, Grant, and Alisa Davine, and Mikaela and Makenzi Astore. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Pasierbiak. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Mt. Greylock for their care, compassion, and companionship during his lengthy stay. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Harry E. Davine will be held Friday, February 7, 2014, with a Requiem Eucharist service at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, celebrated by the Rev. Cricket Cooper. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours will be Thursday, February 6, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m., at DWYER FUNERAL HOME.
