James Edward Jonelis

1934 - 2014 ADAMS James Edward Jonelis, 79, of 1 Berkshire Square, died on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at North Adams Commons. He was born in Athol on Aug. 4, 1934, a son of the late Andrew and Irene (Roy) Jonelis. He attended schools in Connecticut and graduated from the Norwalk High School. He also graduated from the Norwalk State Technical College. Mr. Jonelis was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served with the United States Navy until receiving his Honorable Discharge on Feb. 10, 1956. Mr. Jonelis worked as a Senior Product Specialist in the engineering department of the former Perkin Elmer Corporation until his retirement in 1990. He was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II An avid bowler, he was a member of many bowling leagues. He was a avid fan of the New York Giants and the New York Mets. His wife, the former Hilda Howat, whom he married on May 21, 1983, died on Nov. 4, 2002. He is survived by two sons, James Jonelis, Jr and his wife Kellyann McLaughlin of Waterbury, Conn., and John Jonelis and his partner, Matt Heil of Sherman, Conn.; a daughter, Christine Girard and her husband Scott of Savoy; two stepsons, John and Stephen Plummer, both of Connecticut; six grandchildren, Nicole Knapp and her fiance, Matt Williams of Adams, Ken and Erin Girard of Savoy and Ashley, Rachel and James Janelis III, all of Waterbury; a great-granddaughter, Skylar, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Jonelis, and by a brother, Andrew Jonelis, Jr., and by a sister, Dorothy Zglombicki. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Friday, Aug. 1, at 1 p.m. in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 12 NOON until the time of the service in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
