Joseph A. Buratto Sr.

1925-2014 LEE Mr. Joseph A. Buratto Sr., 88, of 125 Summer St., died Friday, April 11, 2014 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He was born in Pittsfield on April, 24, 1925, the son of the late Bortolo and Candida (Battistoni) Buratto. He attended Richmond and Williams High School in Stockbridge. Joseph was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army as a Corporal in the Philippines. He was employed by the General Electric Co. for 36 years as an electronic electrician retiring in 1986. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Lee. Joseph was an avid sports fan and loved to watch the Boston Celtics and especially the New York Yankees. He loved horseracing and going to the casinos with his family and friends. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. His wife, the former Blanche (Mermet) Buratto, died on August 23, 2005. They were married on July 26, 1952. Survivors include two sons, Joseph Buratto Jr. of Lee who was his caregiver and with whom he resided, and Bruce Buratto and wife, Karen, of Lee; two grandchildren, Courtney and Matthew Buratto, whom he was very proud of and loved very much. He also leaves a sister, Mary Korte, of West Stockbridge; two brothers, Reno Buratto of Lee and John Buratto of West Stockbridge; and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be on Wednesday, April 16 at 9:15 a.m. from the KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, April 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
