Robert Earl Cooper
1928 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Robert Earl Cooper, 84, of Pittsfield died on January 4, 2013.
He was born in Lanesboro on June 12, 1928, son of Francis J.A. and Louie Sharp Cooper. Mr. Cooper graduated in 1946 from Pittsfield High School.
He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was employed by the City of Pittsfield as a Mechanic for 19 years with the Department for Public Works and as a Master Mechanic for 19 years with the Pittsfield Fire Department, retiring in 1986. He was awarded his 50-year pin from the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts Masons at a brief ceremony at Melbourne Place on April 19, 2012.
He enjoyed spending summers in Ogunquit, ME with his wife, Betty Jean. Bob was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. While at Melbourne Place he enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and playing bingo.
He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Betty Jean, sister, Eva Glenella Albert of Pittsfield, MA, brothers, Stanley of Washington D.C., Francis of Baltimore, MD, Arthur of Lafayette, LA, Allen of Mesa, AZ, and twin brother Richard of Dalton, MA.
Mr. Cooper is survived by his sister, Doreen Butler of Pittsfield, MA and a sister-in-law, Eileen Collins of Holly Hill, FL and many nieces and nephews. His niece, Sandra Soule was a devoted caretaker for her uncle.
MEMORIAL NOTICE: There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 791 Main Street, Dalton, MA on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. Family will meet with friends after the service in Grace Church Guild Hall. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Lanesboro, MA at the convenience of the family.
