Wesley F. Whiffen

1938-2014 Wesley F. Whiffen, 75, a 50 year resident of Becket, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Berkshire Medical Center. Wesley was born July 28, 1938 in White Plains, New York to Thomas and Myrtle Whiffen. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Flora, and their son Garry. He also leaves his daughter Tina (Whiffen) Moriarty, her children, his cherished grandchildren, Sean Patrick and Michael Thomas of Southwick, MA. Mr. Whiffen was pre-deceased by his brother Thomas, but leaves behind his brother Peter and his wife, Myra, of Pittsfield. He also leaves his nieces Linda, Deborah, and nephew, Billy. He leaves cherished friends, William and Marge Baumgartner of Dalton, and finally his faithful companion, Ricki, his beloved Beagle. After graduating from Lee High School in 1957, Wesley served with the Marine Corp until 1960. He then transferred to the U.S. Army where he served until 1963, when he was honorably discharged with the ranking of Sergeant. Mr. Whiffen was a retired employee of the Mead Paper Co. in South Lee, where he had worked for 30 years. Wesley was an avid fisherman, hunter, and had a genuine love for all things outdoors, whether it be his garden, his trees, or his fish pond. Wesley will forever be a Dallas Cowboy Fan. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral service with military honors for Wesley Whiffen will be Friday, January 10 at 2 PM at The Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA 01238. His family will greet friends Friday afternoon from 1 PM until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wesley's memory to Soldier On or the , in care of the funeral home.
