William J. DiLego

1931 - 2013 PITTSFIELD William J. DiLego, 82, of 145 Old State Road, Berkshire Village, died at home on June 22, 2013.

Born in Adams on Jan. 20, 1931, he was the son of John and Elizabeth DiSanti DiLego. He attended local schools and graduated from Adams High School.

He was in the Army during the Korean War.

He was a Central Office Equipment Installer for New England Telephone for 38 years, retiring in 1993.

At one time, he played semi pro football, coached town youth football for 28 years, and was an assistant football coach for M.G.R.S. for 10 years.

An avid singer, he was the choir director at North American Martyrs and sang with the O' Boy Minstrels, and many other country shows.

He was a selectman for the town of Lanesborough for 18 years and served on the Finance and the Recreation committees for 15 years. Bill was a Past Commander of the VFW and a member of the Lanesboro American Legion Post 446, and was very active with their food pantry. He was an avid gardener, and loved to tinker. His wife and family were his true passion.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, the former Mary Jane Irwin, whom he married Aug. 23, 1952. He also leaves three daughters, Nancianne DiLego-Heath, and her husband, Bruce, of Tyringham, and Regina DiLego and Lori DiLego, both of Berkshire; a son Joseph DiLego of Berkshire; two brothersm Francis DiLego of Canastota, N.Y., and Pasqual DiLego of Essex Junction, Vt.; a sister, Elizabeth Loholdt of Georgia; five grandchildren, Nathan, Benjamin, Sarah , Carly and Tessa, and one great-granddaughter Aubrey.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for William J. DiLego, 82, who died June 22, 2013, will be Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at DERY FUNERAL HOME at 9:15 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at North American Martyrs Church in Berkshire, celebrated by the Rev. David R. Raymond, pastor. Burial will be held at a later date. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to North American Martyrs Church or Lanesboro Volunteer Fire Dept. in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201
