Rosenkrantz, Barbara Gutmann 91 of Cambridge and Wellfleet, MA died early in the morning of April 30th. Part of a large and loving family, Barbara was a mother, professor, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, mentor and friend. She received a BA from Radcliffe College in 1944, after which she completed a PhD at Clark University with research at the Radcliffe Institute. Actively working for progressive causes was a central part of her life, from her years as a student at Radcliffe where she was involved in left wing politics through her years at Harvard as a mentor and peer to graduate students and faculty. Barbara joined the Department of the History of Science at Harvard University in 1971 where she served for the duration of her career, acting as chair from 1984 – 1989. After retiring in 1993, she continued to contribute to the department and field. An avid walker, biker, swimmer, and tennis player she also loved to travel with family and friends. Barbara's last 7 years were spent at Rogerson House. She is greatly missed. A memorial service will be held in early August.
