Obituary Condolences

MENDELSOHN, Bernard J. Of Delray Beach, FL. and Brockton, MA. and previously of Chestnut Hill. Born on May 17, 1917 in Dedham, Ma. Entered into rest on Wednesday June 27, 2012 at the age of 95. Beloved husband of the late Sue (Shalit) Mendelsohn for 68 years. Devoted father of Barbara Mendelsohn of Delray Beach and her late friend Tom Peterson and Lois Mendelsohn Miller of Brockton and her husband Dr. Abbott Miller. He was the loving youngest sibling and brother of late sister Ruth Weiner and her late husband John Weiner and late sister Charlotte Webber Worth and her late husbands Melvin Webber and Leonard Worth. He was the loving brother -in-law to Dr. Allen Shalit, to Arthur Shalit and his wife Holly, to Mildred, Ann Shalit and Elsa Shalit. He was also brother-in-law to the late Benjamin Shalit and Sol Shalit. Bernie adored his four grandchildren: Linda Miller Rice and her husband Kenny Rice of Sharon, MA, Dr. Michael Miller and his wife Rachel Miller of Needham, MA, Dr. Gregg Miller and his wife Cassandra Miller of Milton, MA, and Todd Miller and his wife Sarah Bunkin of Montara, CA. He joyously attended all four grandchildren's weddings and delivered the seven marital blessings to Todd and Sarah under their wedding chuppah. Bernie adored his eleven great-grandchildren: Pam and Adam Rice; Sam, Anna, Sarah and Jacob Miller; Isabella and Julian Miller; and Josie, Jaya and Weston Miller. He was a devoted uncle to his numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Bernie worked with his wife Sue in their jewelry business on Washington Street in Boston for 28 years. Bernie was a graduate of Boston Latin School where he was a true Latin scholar and attended New York University. He was a Mason and in retirement in Florida he was a member of Temple Sinai where he was a long- standing volunteer in the administration and served as Head Usher. He was also President of the Temple Brotherhood for two consecutive terms. He was very active in his community, was President of the Walker's Club for 20 plus years and was very active in the Men's Club of The Lexington Club Community where he lived in Florida. Bernie was a devotee of classical music and was proud to have been the classmate of Leonard Bernstein at Boston Latin. In his spare time, he was an active scrabble player and a bird watcher and nature lover. Bernie cherished his family and was a very good friend to so many customers who corresponded with him into the last 30 years of his retirement. Services will be held at the Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington St, CANTON MA on, Friday June, 29 2012 at 2:00 PM. Interment Sharon Memorial Park. Memorial observance for family and friends at Heights Crossing Assisted Living, 35 Christy Place, Brockton, MA. 02301 following the interment until 9 PM.
