Obituary Condolences

Merritt, Bill William Gordon Merritt of Westborough, MA passed away in his sleep on December 30, 2013 shortly after celebrating his 87th birthday with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Mary Merritt of Sharon, MA, daughter Ann Merritt and son-in-law Richard Fox of Worcester, MA, and son Scott and daughter-in-law Harriet Merritt of Las Vegas, NV. Bill was loved by three grandchildren – Daniel Merritt Fox of Cambridge, MA, Adam Merritt Fox of Atlanta, GA, and Allana Hanmore (nee Merritt) of Las Vegas – and great grandson Elias Hanmore. He will be mourned by his many friends at The Willows retirement community in Westborough. Bill was born and raised in New Jersey before serving in the Army during WWII. He graduated Penn State University, then worked briefly in New York City before moving to Norwood, MA to start a career with Northrop that lasted over 30 years. He worked on the development of guidance systems for projects including the Harpoon Missile system, the Tomahawk Missile system, and the Apollo program. He took his family on many camping adventures around the United States and was an avid golfer. Bill lived his last ten years at The Willows where he enjoyed keeping people laughing. The family will sit shiva on Sunday January 5 between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm at 6 Jamesbury Drive in Worcester. The Merritt and Fox families are exceptionally grateful for the loving care from his nurse and aides from The Jewish Healthcare Hospice and the staff at The Willows.
