COL. CLARENCE RETZKY Obituary
RETZKY, Col. Clarence "Mike" (Retired U.S. Army) Of Columbia, SC, formerly of Boca Raton, Florida, and Wellesley, Massachusetts, passed away December 24, 2012 at the age of 93. Born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1919, he was the son of the late Charles and Bessie (Lipschutz) Retzky. He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 50 years, Pollyanna (Capilos) Retzky. As a member of the United States Army for over 20 years, Col. Retzky served with the General Staff and Office of the Secretary of Defense. Col. Retzky also served overseas in the Philippines, Germany, and Korea and retired from the U.S. Army out of the Pentagon in 1964. He had many professions including his race horse farm, silk import business, and his 17 year career as a General Manager of Distribution and Materials Manager at the Polaroid Corporation. Of his professions he was most proud of the military service he provided to his country. He leaves his brother, Herbert M. Retzky and his wife, Carol, of River Forest, Ill. and Sun City West, Ariz.; his sister, Harriet (Retzky) Van Wagner, of Sarasota, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Tracy Cardone and Chrysoula Capilos of Columbia, S.C.; his daughter, Elene P. Retzky of Columbia, S.C.; his son, Michael J. Retzky and his wife, Diane of Needham, Mass.; and his grandchildren, Courtney L. Retzky of Arlington, VA and Michael T. Retzky of Needham, Mass., along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services and burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA in the Spring of 2013.
