HAZRA, Deleep Kumar Of Newton, MA, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014, at home. He was 84. Deleep was born on February 20, 1930, in Bihar, India. He attended Anand University in Gujarat and was later awarded a masters degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan. A Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and licensed in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Quebec, and Nova Scotia, Deleep had worked all over the world designing buildings, steel mills, malls, bridges, and hydroelectric projects in Canada, Guatemala, the Middle East, Morocco, Nigeria and Papua New Guinea. In the U.S., Deleep helped design the Ohio Turnpike in the 1950s and the Hingham-Hull bridge. He also did work on the Olympic Stadium in Montreal for the Games of 1976. Deleep finished his career at the Massachusetts Highway Department. Deleep married Anjali Kundoo in 1960 and together they had 2 children, Sharmila and Sanjoy. A jovial and passionate soul, Deleep expressed himself through the philanthropic Rotary International Club of Boston, while also playing tennis at the Longwood Cricket Club and participating in photography at the Newton Camera Club. He loved playing contract bridge, water color painting and tending to his gardens going back to having a small plot of land in a Montreal community garden while living in an apartment. Being an adventurous sort would bring him to the sport of curling and duck pin bowling in Canada and travels around the world. Deleep and his loving ways will be greatly missed. A memorial service organized by the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home at 1803 Centre Street, WEST ROXBURY will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 pm. The crematory service will take place on Friday, May 16 at 11 a.m. at the Newton Crematory, 791 Walnut St. Newton, MA 02459.
