1913 - 2014 Obituary Condolences Flowers
Boncoddo, Dorothy M. (Cotugno) Of Braintree. Beloved wife of Nicholas Boncoddo of 67 years entered peacefully into eternal life on Thursday February 13 ,2014 three months after celebrating her 100th birthday. Born and educated in Boston, she graduated from Girls High then attended classes at Harvard University. She was a resident of Braintree Highlands since 1956. Prior to her marriage to Nicholas, Dorothy was a medical secretary at the Boston Dispensary, a unit of Tufts New England Medical Center. During World War II she was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross. For many years Dorothy was a volunteer campaign worker for the United Fund and also served as a volunteer for The American Cancer Society. While raising her family, she was a Den Mother and active in the Highlands School Parent Teacher's Association. From 1965 – 1971 she was employed by the Dept. of Public Welfare for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A very devout Roman Catholic, Dorothy was a daily communicant at The Church of St. Clare's and a member of the Ladies Sodality, the Women's Bowling League, and the Mr. and Mrs. Club. She was also a member of the Madonna Queen Guild at the Don Orione Home. Dorothy always believed in helping the needy and contributed frequently to the Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, and many other charities. Dorothy's interests included dancing, watching baseball and basketball games, and playing quiz shows. She won first prize on two radio quiz shows in the late 40's. A lover of the arts and music, she was a season subscriber to the Boston Symphony for over 30 years and was an Honorary fellow of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. In addition to her devoted husband, Nicholas, Dorothy is survived by her three loving children: Frank and his wife Christine, Anne Thomas and her husband Robert, and Gerard. Dorothy was so proud of her loving grandson Michael Boncoddo and his fiancé Kim Bender. She will be deeply missed by her cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many caring neighbors and friends. Visiting hours will be at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington St., Braintree on Tuesday, February 18th from 4:00-8:00p.m. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Wednesday February 19th at 9:00am to be followed by a Funeral Mass at The Church of St. Clare, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree at 10:00 a.m. Donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to Catholic TV, P.O.
