EDWARD F. O'BRIEN Sr. Obituary
O'BRIEN, Edward F., Sr. (Retired Master Sergeant), 95, of Norfolk, formerly of Somers, Connecticut and Ft. Myers, Florida, passed peacefully on May 18, 2014, at Norwood Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Rita Mae (Bright) OBrien and the late Loretta (Middleton) OBrien. Born in Boston on March 11, 1919, he was the son of the late John and Mamie Mahoney. Edward was educated in Boston and Sharon schools and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. Prior to WWII he worked as Massachusetts State Police Trooper in the Barnstable and Framingham areas. In 1941 he enlisted in the US Army and served in WWII as a Ranger paratrooper. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Clusters for his bravery. After WWII he became a member of the National Guard in Connecticut, and later served his country again during the Korean Conflict as a Military Policeman. Upon completion of thirty three years of proud service to his country he was awarded an engraved silver sword at a ceremony held in Washington D.C. At the close of the ceremony, Master Sergeant OBrien made his final parachute jump in respect to the men he served with and the country he so proudly loved. Edward is survived by his children; Edward F. OBrien, Jr. and his wife Diana of Norfolk, and Kathleen T. OBrien of Manchester, CT, three grandchildren; Justin OBrien and his wife Pamela of Holden, MA, Thomas OBrien of Norfolk, and Samuel OBrien of Norfolk, and a cherished great granddaughter; Avery Elizabeth OBrien. At the request of the family visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Funeral services at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 1:15 PM.
