EDWARD WARD Obituary

WARD, Edward K., Jr. 80, died January 3rd at his home in East Boothbay, Maine. He was born July 2, 1933 in Hartford, Connecticut to Edward Ward, Sr. and Elizabeth Case Ward. Edward graduated from Bates College with a B.A. in Economics. He also attended New York University Graduate School of Business Administration and graduated from Harvard Business Schools Advanced Management Program and The College for Financial Planning. Ted extensive banking career began at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he served in the Bank Examination, Economic Research and finally Public Information Departments over a five year period of commercial bank management training. In 1966, he was appointed as President of the Framingham National Bank in Massachusetts, becoming the youngest bank president in the state. In 1975, the Conifer Group, a mid-sized bank holding company, recruited him in order to restore the bank to profitability. He later worked at State Street Boston Corporation to re-organize their retail banking division. From 1984 to 1986, he directed the complete turnaround of major Florida Savings and Loan Association. He returned to Maine in 1986 to finish his banking career at the Durham Trust Company until they became a victim of the real estate bust in 1991. He later joined A.G. Edwards & Sons to serve as a financial advisor to individuals and small business for the next three years. He was very active in civic affairs including as Chairman of the Board of three different Chambers of Commerce, as a trustee of several hospitals and a manufacturing company. He was Chairman of the Board of the Massachusetts Bankers Association in 1980. In Harpswell, he was a member of the Harpswell Budget Advisory Committee. He volunteered for the West Harpswell sixth grade girls basketball coach and only lost one game in his first season. He enjoyed boating, gardening, stock analysis, basketball and genealogy. In the Boothbay Region, he was a member of the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club, St. Columbas Episcopal Church, and the Boothbay Region YMCA. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Joyce Ward, of East Boothbay, Maine. Daughters, Maribeth Amber, and husband, Lennie Brenner, Lauralyn Ward, and companion John Middleton; Susan Oleson and husband, David; Gail Watling; Amy Bryan and husband, John; Grandchildren, Katherine Jones, Alaina Oleson, Kirsten Frizol, Erica Frizol, Alexander Wattling, Brittany Watling, Jake Bryan and Kaylie Bryan; great-granddaughter, McKinleigh Frizol. He also leaves a sister, Carol Ward Troy; a sister-in-law, Janice Nichols and brother-in-law, Tony Nichols; Edward is predeceased by a sister, Maribeth Connoly, and her sweet cat, Sassy. A Celebration of Life service for Edward, will be held at the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club in the summer of 2014, date and time to be announced.
