Obituary Condolences

GARVEY, Eleanor M. 94, of Cambridge died Monday February 11, 2013 in Mt. Auburn Hospital. A noted print curator and bibliophile, she graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in art history in 1940. She received her M.A. from Clark University in 1942. Eleanor taught at the Worcester Art Museum from 1942 to 1947 and then served as the art librarian and museum curator at Wellesley College for 5 years. She also worked at the Newark Museum and the Fogg Art Museum, before beginning her 37-year career at the Houghton Library at Harvard University. She served as the printing and graphic arts Curator of the Houghton Library from 1974-1990. In 1991, she received the Laureate Award from the American Printing History Association. She has also served as a faculty member of the Rare Book School at Columbia University and as a faculty member of the Radcliffe Seminars. A memorial service celebrating Eleanor's life will be held at a later date. Burial was held privately. Britton Funeral Home, 648 Main St., SHREWSBURY, is assisting Eleanor's family with arrangements.
