1927 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
BLOOM, Irving 86, of Brewster, MA, died at his home on April 18, 2014 after a long illness. Husband of Elaine Glenda (Kaplan) Bloom. Born 1927, graduated Everett HS and Purdue University. Served 15 months in the U.S. Army in Korea. Jointly owned J. Bloom Co. in Chelsea, MA with his father, Louis Bloom. In 1968, founded Sew Right Fabrics and operated retail stores in Malden, MA, Newburyport, MA, and Sanford, ME until 1994. Raised his family in Swampscott, MA, from 1954 to 1979, managing a youth baseball team for 6 years. Retired in 1994 with Glenda to Brewster, MA and West Palm Beach, FL. Irvings interest in sports and genealogy prevailed throughout his life. Basketball letter-man at Everett HS. Enjoyed tennis and golf. Member of the Captains Golf Club in Brewster, MA and the West Palm Beach Country Club. An avid tournament bridge player, taught his son Ken to play bridge in the early 70's. Attained the rank of Gold Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League in March, 2014. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Kenneth W. Bloom and wife Phyllis of Acton, MA, son, Laurence P. Bloom of Newburyport, MA, daughter, Diane R. Bloom of Port Townsend, WA, and grandson, Daniel Bloom. A graveside service will be held at Temple Emanuel Cemetery, 202 Mt. Vernon St., Lawrence, MA at 10:00am on Tuesday, April 22nd. Visitation at 11 Wilson Lane, Acton, MA, Tuesday following the service until 9pm and Wednesday 11am to 9pm. Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
