1938 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
HEALY, James J., D.M.D. 75, died peacefully at his home in Sudbury on January 1, 2014 in the presence of his family. He is survived by his wife Sarah (Murphy) Healy, son and daughter-in-law James and Julia Healy of Hanover, NH and son and daughter-in-law Justin and Michelle Healy of Bend, Oregon; grandchildren James, Charles and Caroline Healy, all of Hanover, NH and Jack and Ethan Healy, both of Bend. In addition he leaves his brother and sister-in-law Stanton and Sarah Healy of Sudbury, a niece Alison Sjovall of Cranston, RI, and nephew Andrew Healy of Groton, MA. Dr. Healy was predeceased by his daughter Kristen Sarah Healy. Dr. Healy was born and raised in Worcester, MA, the son of the late Joseph E. and Mary A. Healy. He attended Worcester elementary schools and was a 1956 graduate of The Governor's Academy (formerly Governor Dummer Academy), Byfield, MA. Following graduation from Amherst College in 1960 he was employed in the management training program for New England Telephone Company, Boston and served in the Massachusetts Air National Guard. After several years he focused his attention on pursuing a career in medicine. He completed post graduate studies at Harvard University, Clark University and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Boston earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1968. Following graduation he purchased the dental practice of Dr. Al Sharpe, in Wayland and later relocated his office to Sudbury where he practiced until retirement in 2004. Dr. Healy cherished his role as a small town dentist in Sudbury, enjoying the family of staff and patients. He became involved in many civic endeavors including the Sudbury Board of Health, fundraisers for the Cancer Crusades, Rotary Club, PRIDE (Post Road Indeed Deserves Effort) projects, and spent many hours on the ice with Sudbury Youth Hockey. He enjoyed many years at his home on Nantucket where he spent time fishing, boating, and working in his woodshop and garden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 11 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 160 Concord Road, Sudbury. Burial will follow at New Town Cemetery, Sudbury. Visiting hours will be Friday, January 10 from 4 - 7 PM at the Duckett - J.S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road (Rt. 20), SUDBURY; relatives and friends are kindly invited. In lieu of flowers the Healy family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to Children's Hospital at Dartmouth, Office of Gift Recording, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756-0001.
