Obituary Condolences

Felty, Julie Miller, RNCS
Died of cancer at her home in Cambridge, MA on October 4, 2013. She was 64. She leaves her wife, Susan Donaldson, MD, her daughter, Nancy Felty McKinney, MD, her bonus son, Adam Wright, and her beloved grandson, James McKinney. Julie also leaves her mother, Mary Miller of Amherst, OH, her siblings, Elizabeth Miller-Szefcyk, Norman Miller, and Joel Miller, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Born in Amherst, OH, Julie graduated from Lake Erie College for Women. She received a Masters in Divinity from Andover Newton Theological School before deciding that her calling was to care for the mentally ill. She completed a nursing diploma at New England Baptist Hospital, followed by a Bachelor's of Nursing at Emmanuel College, and then qualified as an advanced practice nurse in Psychiatry. She worked in multiple settings-at St. Elizabeth's Hospital and Mass Mental Health Center, as head nurse at Metropolitan State Hospital and at the Gaebler Children's Center, with the Medford Visiting Nurse Association, and as a private therapist. Julie had a passion for opera, flowers, travel, and anything that was over the top. She was a hilarious raconteuse, and everybody's mother. She loved family, reading, talking on the phone, her patients, and chocolate. Following a family funeral in Ohio and private interment, calling hours will be on Saturday, October 19, between 2 and 4 pm, at the Cornerstone Village Common House, 175 Harvey St., Cambridge. Street parking is limited, but close to Alewife T station. In lieu of flowers, please do something loving for a person in need; you can say that Julie sent you.
