ROBERT CAREY "BOB" HUGHES Obituary
Hughes, Robert "Bob" Carey Of Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, died May 18th at the age of 73 due to cancer, with his family by his side. Born in Ohio, the oldest of five siblings, he excelled at football and basketball. After serving honorably in the U.S. Army for 3 years, he turned his attention to academics. He met his wife, Karen, at Ohio University and graduated with honors in 1965 with a degree in Accounting. They moved to Boston, where Bob earned his M.B.A. from Harvard University. Bob worked as a Sales and Marketing executive for several technology companies in the New England area, most notably for Digital Equipment Corporation in the '80s and '90s. He was a respected leader, mentor and loyal friend. He was an avid sailor, a talented woodworker, builder of grandfather clocks, and a world traveler. Most important to him was family, and enjoyed quality time with them at home and on travel adventures. Bob retired early to care for Karen for 12 years preceding her passing in 2012 due to a neurological illness. His daughter, Erin; son, Brant; granddaughter, Hadley; brother, James; sisters, Kathleen, Margaret and Elizabeth, and also many other relatives survive Bob. A private burial service has already been held, and there will be a Memorial Service in September to be determined. Memorial Contributions may be given to the "Robert C. Hughes Memorial Fund" on the website www.alz.org. Contributions may also be made at Bob's favorite charity, The Home for Little Wanderers, at www.thehome.org.
