HOWE, Robert William Bob 67 of Barnstable, MA and Naples, FL, formerly of Scituate, MA, beloved husband and best friend of Janice (King) Howe for 45 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 8, 2014. He was predeceased by his parents, Beatrice (Coughlin) Howe and Lawrence Howe. Bob is survived by his wife and the three children and their spouses that he adored: Christopher and Christine Howe of Belmont, MA, Stephanie and John Edmonds of Duxbury, MA and Jennifer and Gregg Jurkiewicz of Belmont, MA; his loyal siblings Brian Howe, Marilyn Howe, Dr. Kenneth Howe and Paul Howe; and eight special grandchildren Madison Edmonds, Ryan Edmonds, Mackenzie Edmonds, Brady Edmonds, Molly Howe, Matthew Howe, Aaron Jurkiewicz and William Jurkiewicz. Bob graduated from Boston College High School, class of 1964, and holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Boston College, class of 1968, and a Banking degree from the Graduate School of Savings Banking at Brown University. He was formerly Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Boston College High School and a Boston College Presidents Round Table Executive Committee member. Bob bravely served his country as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968 through 1971 within 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines as a First Lieutenant. He received a Bronze Star Medal for his heroic achievement in February 1969 while serving in Vietnam. For his courageous service, Bob also received numerous other honors including the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, The Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross and the Navy Achievement Medal. The Navy Achievement Medal was awarded to Bob by the Secretary of the Navy for his superior leadership from August 4, 1969 to December 12, 1969. First Lieutenant Howe displayed outstanding leadership and initiative despite the extremely adverse conditions and difficulties associated with a combat environment. By his consistently high level of efficiency, he materially enhanced the operational effectiveness of his unit as he tirelessly trained his men and skillfully supervised the numerous administrative and logistic functions inherent with his mission. Bob had extensive experience working with venture capital firms, accounting firms and investment bankers. He was Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of Atlantic Data Services, Inc., a provider of information technology services to the financial services industry, a company he co-founded in 1980. Bob also served on the boards of Cognizant Technology Solutions, Lee Kennedy Company and Darling Consulting Group. Bob was also a vigorous philanthropist and leader, serving on boards of various organizations he supported. In 2006, he, along with his friend Lee Kennedy, co-founded the Boston Chapter of Golfers Against Cancer, a charity which targets dollars for breast cancer research. Recently, Bob was honored with The One Hundred from Mass General Hospital for his selfless contributions to their breast cancer research efforts. Bob was also tireless in his efforts as a member of the Mass General Hospital Cancer Center Advisory Board. In addition, Bob was actively involved with the New England Center for Homeless Veterans. A lover of the game of golf, Bob was the President of The Ridge Club in Sandwich, MA, which he and other members recently purchased. Bob was a devoted family man who always made time for his children and grandchildren. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a terrific role model who positively touched the lives of numerous individuals throughout his life. He was an extraordinary man who will be missed dearly. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA on Thursday from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. Funeral Mass at St Pius X Church, 5 Barbara Street at Station Ave, South Yarmouth, MA on Friday at 11:30AM and burial will be held at 2:00PM at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. Bobs family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of the doctors and nurses for all of the compassionate and loving care that he received while at Mass General Hospital.
