WALTER BAKER Obituary

BAKER, Walter E. Age 89, died on October 5, 2012 at the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. He was the devoted husband of Mildred E. (Reynolds) Baker of Plymouth. He was born in Atlanta, GA on April 24, 1923, a son of the late Earl and Ada (Coker) Baker. He was educated in Atlanta and then entered the US Navy, where he proudly served during WWII. He also served in the Merchant Marines as well as the US Coast Guard. Mr. Baker worked as a Stationary Engineer for the Braintree Light and Power Company until his retirement.Walter was a well accomplished gentleman; He was an experienced Cessna 150 Pilot, a photographer, and expert fly-tier, an avid salt water and fresh water fisherman, an experienced sailboat handler, a builder/carpenter, gardener, hiker, and avid reader. He had worked for the Plymouth Council on Aging as a driver following his retirement from the utility company. For over 50 years, Mr. Baker was a member of the B.P.O.E., Masonic Lodge. Besides leaving his wife Mildred, he was the loving father of Janice Baker and Georgia Johnson both of Plymouth and the late Leonard Baker. He was father-in-law to Kathy Sargood Baker of Bridgewater, grandfather of Michael Baker and Julie Baker both of Bridgewater and the late Christopher Baker. Great-grandfather of Michael Baker, Jenna Cunniff and Cody Baker all of Bridgewater and also leaves his granddaughter-in-law Melissa Pike. The funeral service will take place on Friday, Oct.12th, 2012 at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., PLYMOUTH, at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Cartmell Funeral Home from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Interment will be in Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth.
