FREDERICK MILLER Obituary

MILLER, Frederick Maxwell 89, formerly of Larchmont, NY, Boxford, MA and Rye Beach, NH, passed away Monday December 14th after a brief illness. Fred grew up in Larchmont, NY, where he attended Mamaroneck High School before Yale University. Drafted after WWII during his years at Yale, Fred served in the US Army in Alaska. He was a member of the Yale Diving team, graduated in 1948 and joined his father's company, Royal Typewriter Co. In 1954, Fred married Sally Condon and they raised six children while living in NY, England, Switzerland and Boxford, MA while Fred served as an international sales executive for Royal, D'Orsay and other consulting businesses. In 1976, Fred and Sally bought the Little Professor Bookstore in Portsmouth, NH and moved to Rye Beach, NH. They ran the bookstore together for the next 14 years. Fred served on the Boards of the Chamber of Commerce, Strawbery Banke and other organizations that revitalized downtown Portsmouth. An avid golfer and sailor, Fred especially enjoyed sailing the New England coast with his family. Following the death of Sally in 1991, Fred married Lesley Harper and moved to Cape Cod in 1996. They built a home in Yarmouthport where Fred played golf and joined the Bass River Yacht Club. He served on Boards of the South Yarmouth Library and The Friends of Yarmouth Council on Aging, and was a founding member of Computers for Seniors. In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by his six children: Megan Miller of Tucson, AZ, Jeffrey Miller of Portland, OR, Meredith Miller of Newton, MA, James Miller of Martinez, CA, John Miller and his wife Mary Cook of Pleasant Hill, CA, Alison Miller Montague and her husband David Montague of Newton, MA and five grandchildren: Gabriel, Alex and Sophie Montague of Newton, MA and Sarah and Gwendolyn Miller of Pleasant Hill, CA. A Funeral Mass will be held January 8th, 11:00am at Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster, MA. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the ALS Family Foundation or the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund.

Sorry for your loss. I never met Fred, my UN Ed grew up with him in the 1900 Hartford .have pictures and family history ,would be happy to share [email protected]

I remember the times that Fred was our club photographer, he was quietly at every event , and took a ton of photos detailing the events, races and fun that the kids had at the club at the time. I am sorry that I can not be with you today and remember Fred as an all around good guy , and very helpful. Our thoughts and prayers are with you , Bob
