ANDERSON Carl Michael of Holbrook, MA on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at age 90 following a long illness. Mr. Anderson was a decorated Veteran of the Second World War. He enlisted in the Army after the attack on Pearl Harbor at age 20 and was immediately enrolled in flight school. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the USAAF with the 368th Fighter Squadron; 359th Fighter Group and flew a P-51 Mustang as escort to First Division B-17’s in the European Theater, flying missions over Northern France, Normandy and Germany. While on a mission he crash-landed in Germany where he was captured by the enemy. He was declared missing in action on November 21, 1944. Mr. Anderson was held as a prisoner of war in Balaria and Moosburg, Germany until the end of the war. He was honorably discharged from the service on October 10, 1945. Carl Anderson was born in Roslindale, Massachusetts on November 18, 1922. He is predeceased by his wife of 40 years Rose Meaney Anderson who died in 1988, as well as his parents Carl F. and Helena O’Sullivan Anderson. He is also predeceased by his sisters Esther Rossi of Utica, NY, Greta Johnson of Atlanta, GA, brothers George “Buddy” Anderson of Arlington, MA and Peter Anderson of Swans Island, ME. Mr. Anderson is survived by his four children Carl “Mike” Anderson, Jr. and his wife Marilyn of Avon, MA; Christina Doctoroff and her husband Edward of Winthrop, MA; Elizabeth Aghababian and her husband Scott of Hopkinton, MA; and Henry Anderson and his wife Lynn of Marshfield, MA. He leaves nine grandchildren, his beloved sister Helen Megley of Croton-onHudson, NY and many nieces and nephews. After retiring from the Brockton VA Hospital in the 1970’s, Mr. Anderson enjoyed quiet pursuits such as golf, reading, taking care of his dogs and spending time with his family. He was a longtime supporter of veterans’ organizations, the Holbrook Public Library and various civic organizations in Holbrook. A Funeral Service will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 South Main Street, (Rt 28) RANDOLPH Monday at 10:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
