MCDONOUGH Faye McDonough, 55, a lifelong resident of Norwood, died peacefully on September 28, 2013, in the presence of her loving family. Faye was born on May 17, 1958, and graduated from Norwood High School in 1976. Faye was the first woman firefighter in Massachusetts appointed by the Civil Service. She was appointed on October 1, 1984 and retired in 2011. She wore badge number 59, as both her father Charles and her brother Patrick. That helmet is now proudly worn by her nephew, Patrick. She was also known by hundreds of school children as “Firefighter Faye”. She taught Fire Safety to Norwood school students. The kids adored her. Faye also volunteered her time to many charities, causes and helping others. Faye enjoyed spending time at Aho Grove in Walpole, and was devoted to each and every one of her nieces and nephews. For over 25 years, she would orchestrate an annual ski trip in New Hampshire for all of them. Faye was a person who would help anyone, friend or stranger, in any way she was able. Faye was the best friend you could ever ask for to all who knew her. Faye was the daughter of the late Charles McDonough of Norwood, and survived by her mother, Phyllis, her sister Catherine and her husband Joe Hudson of Hyannis, and her brothers Charles and his wife Joanne of Hanover, Patrick and his wife Susan, Joseph and his wife Jeanmarie, Michael and his wife Barbara, all of Norwood, and David and his long-time companion Sandy Hannon of Walpole. She is also survived by her twelve spoiled nephews and nieces; Charlie, Patrick, Natalie, Lauren, Michael, Joseph, Brian, and Allison McDonough, Sara Ryan, and Jolena, Noah and Jodon Driscoll. She is also survived by her Uncle, Father Joseph McDonough of Norwood and her Aunt Iris McDonough of Needham. Faye also leaves behind her faithful dog “Boomer.” Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, at 9:00 A.M. from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rte. 1A), NORWOOD, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 547 Washington Street, Norwood. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, October 2, and Thursday, October 3, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., both days, at the funeral home.
