John "Butchie"Zaffina passed away peacefully on June 24, 2013. He was born in Lowell, MA on June 18, 1951. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War era. Butchie came to Florida in 1973 "for just three days" but fell in love with Anna Maria Island and never returned to MA. He married Elizabeth Castellina in 1980. Together they travelled the country for his cable TV work, settling back in Bradenton in 1999. In recent years he worked as a real estate investor. He was an avid fly fisherman and kayaker and loved the Gulf. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Elizabeth; sister Linda Anderson; brother Frank (Stephanie) Zaffina; son Eric (Anya) Zaffina; beloved grandchildren Dante and Hannah; special mother-in-law Maria Castellina, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He leaves his devoted canine companions, Sammy and Lucy. He was predeceased by parents John and Bea Zaffina, cousin Shelly, father-in-law Valentino Castellina, and brothers-in-law Alan Anderson and John Castellina. A Memorial Mass will be held in the Chapel of St's. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Bradenton, on Saturday, June 29th at 11:00 am.
