1922-2014 Charles Eldon MacInnes, 91, of Andover, Mass. passed away peacefully at Home Health and Hospice Care in Merrimack, New Hampshire in the presence of his three loving children, Carol MacInnes, Alan MacInnes, and Diana MacInnes on May 15, 2014. He is survived by his three children; three grandchildren, Brian MacInnes and his wife, Jan, Kate Gibbons, and Heather Belcher and her husband, Brent; three great-grandchildren, Dalton MacInnes, and Cobie and Conor Belcher; and cousin, Melvyn Waddell of Prince Edward Island. Charles was born on May 30, 1922 to Charles P. MacInnes and Minnie M. Waddell MacInnes in Malden, Mass. He grew up in Medford, Mass., graduating from Medford High School. Charles served the three years with the famed U.S. Army 34th Infantry Division Red Bull Regimen in the North Africa and Italy campaign during World War II for which he earned several medals, including a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Charles and Carolyn M. Millard met through Dot MacInnes Nichols, Charles' cousin and Carolyn's best friend. They corresponded during the war and were married on June 7, 1946. They raised a family in Reading, Massachusetts. Charles and his father became partnes in the construction business building single family homes throughout the greater Boston area. In Andover, Charles built a home that he lived in for the past 48 years with Carolyn, his wife of 67 years, who predeceased him on Feb. 22. Charlie had a great sense of humor. He taught us all that humor can help us persevere through difficult times. Charles enjoyed playing the guitar around the campfire at the Littleton Beach family cottage. His other interests included country music and dancing, westerns and film classics, and traveling with his family on road trips to amusement parks, Old Orchard Beach, Lake Winnipesauke, the White Mountains, and the lakes and mountains of Vermont and Montreal, QC. Charles was predeceased by his parents; sister, Doris MacInnes; and grandson, Conor Patrick MacInnes Barry. FUNERAL NOTICE: Private funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Guilford Community Church with Reverend Lise Sparrow officiating.
