ANDRES G. MUNIZ, JR.

Andres G. Muniz Jr., 79, of Harlingen, Texas, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Saturday, July 27, 2013. He was born December 4, 1933, in Harlingen, Texas, to Andres Muniz Sr. and Clemencia Muniz.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Dr. Leofredo Muniz, Leonel Muniz and Edward Muniz. He is survived by his loving wife, Dahlia; his daughter, Gloria Morales (Frank) of San Antonio, Texas; his son, Andy Muniz III of Denver, Colo.; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; three brothers, Ret. Col. Edelmiro (Alicia) Muniz of Seabrook Texas, Robert (Lupita) Muniz of Harlingen, Texas, Richard (Delores) Muniz of McAllen, Texas; his sister, Genoveva (Beva) Martinez of Victoria, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Andres was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He served his country from 1953-1955. Andres was recognized as Matrimonio Magnifico of H.A.R.P. Cameron County Oct. 18, 2008. He was also recognized as an outstanding citizen in the community, was commended for exemplary work with business, civic, educational and sports organizations for Harlingen and Brownsville. He was awarded Senate proclamation #827 on Sept. 14, 2004, from Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr., County of Cameron Proclamation on March 27, 2006, from County Judge Gilberto Hinojosa; Resolution #1947 on March 27, 2006, from the Brownsville Housing Authority in Appreciation of Service by Andres G. Muniz as BHA Chairman and Commissioner 1999-2006, Resolution #1887 on June 28, 2004, Dedication of new Warehouse, Andres G. Muniz Warehouse Brownsville Housing Authority and a certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Housing and Urban Development on March 27, 2006. Andres was an avid golfer and was 1990 Senior PGA Golfer, 1994 Pan American Golf Association National Senior Champion and also a Pan American National Hall of Fame member.

Visitation was held on Monday, July 29, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 30, 2013 at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mission Divina, 2105 E. 14th Street, Brownsville, Texas 78521.
