EVARISTO A. GAMEZ Sr. Obituary


Evaristo A. Gamez, Sr., 88, went to be with Our Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014.

Mr. Gamez served his country in the US Army during WW II in The Pacific Theater. He retired after 34 ½ years as Captain of the Brownsville Fire Department where he served as the Union President of the IAFF, TXSAFF Local 970 for 17 years. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Assembly 1127. Evaristo was a life member of the VFW Post #2035. He had an enormous love for his family which he was very proud of. Also he was an avid reader and enjoyed working around the house.

Evaristo was preceded in death by his father Carlos Gamez, Sr.; mother Antonia Alcoser Gamez; brothers Carlos Gamez, Jr., Ramon Gamez, Jesus Gamez, and Alberto Gamez.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Constanza Serna Gamez; children Evaristo Gamez, Jr. (Rosa Margarita), Maria Elena Gamez, Sergio Gamez (Bonnie), Rodolfo Gamez (Amelia); grandchildren Evaristo Gamez III and Carlos Arnoldo Gamez; brother Roberto Gamez; sisters Rosalinda Guerra, Maria Magdalena Orta, and Hermelinda Orta; numerous nieces and nephews.

And will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home, 1355 Old Port Isabel Road.

Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 at Christ The King Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Pallbearers will be Albert Garcia, Fernando Ramirez, Jaime Valdez, Jose Luis Garcia, Marco Antonio Gamez, Jorge D. Lerma.pai
