Joe "Jose Roberto" Abundez Jr., 70, born in Brownsville, Texas, a beloved son, father and brother who entered onto the glory of his eternal life on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013.|
Joe was the first born child to the union of Jose Sr. and Lydia Abundez, a pioneering family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Joe is survived by his children; JoAnn Beale from Woodland, CA; Robert Joe Robertson-Abundez from Redding, CA; and Ruben and Priscilla from Cleborne, Texas. His sisters Oralia Villarreal, Odilia (Joe) Castillo from Brownsville, Texas; and Alfredo (Elida) Abundez from Corpus Christi, Texas. Odelia (Carlos Manuel) Doria from Sacramento, CA. Numerous nephews, nieces and other extended family members.
Joe served in the United States Air Force for two terms from 1960 to 1969 during the Vietnam War as a Jet Engine Mechanic on the American spy jet, SR71 Blackbird.
He was baptized and raised a Methodist, a member of El Buen Pastor Methodist Church in Brownsville, Texas. He was a great fan of the Dallas Cowboys and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on.
Guerra Funeral Home will be in charge of transporting Joe to the Corpus Christ Bend Veterans Cemetery for interment and final resting place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be sent to the
under his name as he was a valiant cancer fighter until his end.
The Family thanks Dr. Karkoutly and Solara for the great care and concern given our dear beloved family member. Very special thanks especially expressed to Chris Anderson, the RN who gave the utmost heartfelt care to Joe and his family until the end.
