Clyde J. Davis

BUCYRUS: Clyde J. Davis, 86, of 336 Wedgewood Court, Bucyrus, died Monday, December 9, 2013 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, after an extended illness.

Clyde was born in Marion, on December 17, 1926 to the late Clyde and Effie (Stevens) Davis. He married Winona J. "Winnie" Fate on June 5, 1949 and she survives him.

Clyde lived his entire life in the area and attended the Baptist church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Corporal during World War II, stationed in the Philippines. He had worked at the former ITT-North in Galion. He worked at the former Cook's Electric in Galion, repairing radios and televisions. Clyde served his community both in his private life as well as working life. He was a Deputy Sheriff with the Crawford County Sheriffs for 15 years, beginning his work under Sheriff Floyd Smith and retiring under Sheriff Ronny Shawber. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Whetstone Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a Captain. Clyde was a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He loved his family, and the feeling was mutual. He had a quick wit and had a great sense of humor. Clyde camped for twenty-five years at Dogwood Valley and Hidden Lakes with his wife, mostly because she loved to camp. Country music was his favorite, especially artists like George Jones, Merle Haggard, Jim Reeves and George Strait. He would play the guitar and sing his favorite country songs at the campground and usually gathered a crowd to join in the singing and enjoy the music.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons and four daughters: Rick & Rita Davis, Bucyrus, Carol Jean & David Reece, Mt. Victory, James Leonard & Melina Davis, Bucyrus, Janice & Bob Tuscan, Galion, Brenda & Bill Smith, Galion, and Judy & Scott Gifford, Marion, his nineteen grandchildren: Amy & Jeremy Hensley, Heather and Josh Dyer, Beth Ann Davis & Mike Cathry, Scott Davis & Paige Satterfield, Lindsey & Nick Powers, Michelle & Jim Harmon, Kevin & Kelly Kiser; Jennifer & Rich Swisher, Ayndria & Jesse Lacey, Travis Davis, Kelly & Jason Phelps, Bryan Tuscan, Lesley Tuscan, Billy & Sara Ann Smith, Megan & Kyle Nulk, Sarah Jane Beran, Lacey Clagett, Jordan Clagett, and Kiersten Gifford, his twenty-five great grandchildren: Alyssa Detillion, Jaxon Hensley, Tanner Dyer, Kenadie Dyer, Oakley Dyer, Camryn Powers, Avery Powers, Emmi Powers, McKenzie Harmon, Madison Harmon, Maranda Harmon, Chase Kiser, Camy Kiser, Kody Kiser, Shay Mundy, Shauna Richardson, Kaitlyn Wells, Mia Wells, Chloe Lacey, Zach Phelps, Lynnea Phelps, Brendan Damron, Wesley Nulk, Hannah Smith and Camron Smith and his sister Marie Gillette, Marion.

He was preceded in death by his three granddaughters: infant twin granddaughters Maranda & Kimberly and infant granddaughter Nicole Renee, his brothers Charles Davis and Robert Davis and his sister Dorothy Fritz.

Friends may call Wednesday, December 11, from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 PM at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion, with Pastor Ken Lance officiating. Burial will follow in Caledonia Cemetery, Caledonia. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and the local veterans organizations.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Bucyrus, or Homecare Matters Home Health And Hospice in care of the funeral home.
