Joseph Sanzo

BOYNTON BEACH, FL: Joseph Sanzo, 91, peacefully passed away Monday, January 21, 2013 in Boynton Beach, Florida.

Joe was born on July 18, 1921 in Bucyrus, Ohio to the late Frank and Carmela (Todaro) Sanzo. He was one of four children.

Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, Guy Sanzo; and his sister, Rosie Sanzo Spade.

His sister Eleanor Loscuito, (wife of the late Frank Loscuito), 98, lives in Chicago, Illinois.

Joe served in the Air Force in WWII as a pilot. His love for flying continued long after he left the service, flying every chance he could, co-owning a plane and flying out of Fremont Municipal Airport. He and his wife, Donna lived in Fremont, Ohio on McPherson Boulevard, where they raised their six daughters. Joe was very active in St. Ann's Catholic Church and volunteered as an usher for many years. He owned and operated the Sanzo Insurance Agency until his retirement in the mid 1980's when he and Donna moved to Kailua Kona, Hawaii. The couple moved to Boynton Beach, Florida in the early 1990's.

Joe was a family man. The ever-present love for his wife, children and his extended family, was obvious to all those who knew him. Joe also loved a good game of cards, especially cribbage. He famously won numerous cribbage tournaments in his day and rarely passed up the opportunity to play. He took great joy in teaching several of his grandchildren the game of cribbage and still continued to play up until the week of his death. He always had a crossword puzzle in progress and always used a pen.

Joe is survived by Donna Sanzo of Boynton Beach, Florida, his loving wife of almost 69 years; daughters, Sharon Brudzinski of Eastover, South Carolina, Susan Decker of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, Cathy Zibbel of Lake Worth, Florida, Christy Brehaut of Kailua Kona, Hawaii , Julie Sonz of Bellaire Bluffs, Florida and Jodi Waits of Lexington, South Carolina; sister , Eleanor Loscuito; nephews, Raymie Sanzo, Ronald Sanzo, Roger Sanzo, and Guy Loscuito; nieces, Linda Edgington, Jean Goode, Antonina Ruck, Carmela Sadowski, and Frances Scrabacz; grandchildren, Jamie Brudzinski Pursell, Mindi Brudzinski Wright, Joseph Brudzinski, Dylan Brehaut, Robert Zibbel, Austin Zibbel, Alex Decker, Grant Decker, Claire Sonz, Riley Sonz, Rachel Kyzer Hourihan, Jacob Kyzer, and Quinn Waits; great grandchildren , Gavin Decker, Owen Decker, Ian Pursell, Emily Pursell, Liam Pursell and Holly Hourihan.
