GALION: Robert A. "Bud" Heiser, 90, of Galion, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Mill Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Galion after a long, active life.
Born July 21, 1922 in Galion, he was the son of the late Robert N. and Hilda M. (Monat) Heiser. He married Emma L. (Eichhorn) Heiser on July 3, 1949 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Galion High School in 1940 and Bowling Green State University in 1951 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Bud served with the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of First United Church of Christ and worked at the former Galion Iron Works in the accounting department, retiring in 1985.
He was also a member of Galion Lodge 414 Free and Accepted Masons, Galion Chapter 142 Royal Arch Masons, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus and he received the honorary 33rd degree in 1982, Aladdin Temple Shrine, Aladdin Drum and Bugle Corp and Royal Order of Jester Court. Bud was a Past Patron of Naomi Chapter 47 Order of Eastern Star, Director of Fraternal Relations for Crawford County Valley of Columbus and Mansfield Commandery. He was a life member of the American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 in Galion and played Taps for many years with the military funeral detail.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ken Green of Galion; one grandson, Brett Green and fiancé Jill Thomas of Bowling Green; one sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Oran "Mac" McMahon of Tenn.; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Frederick "Fritz" Heiser of Helena, Montana, Paul and Faythe Heiser of Fostoria, Jim and Ellie Heiser of Galion and Dorothy Heiser of Galion.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenny Heiser and two sisters-in-law, June (Iams) Heiser and Ethel (Harris) Heiser.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 12, with Rev. Katherine Beckett officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Galion. Full military graveside honors will be conducted by the United States Navy and the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
