GALION: Robert J. "Bob" Opperman, 77 of Galion died Monday, July 30, 2012 at Galion Community Hospital after a 9 month illness.
He was born September 19, 1934 in Shawnee, Ohio in Perry County; he was the son of the late Robert H. and Estella (Paskell) Opperman. He married Carolyn (Hodgson) Opperman on June 5, 1954 who survives.
He was a 1952 graduate of Shawnee High School.
Bob was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Galion and Moose Lodge 303 in Galion; he enjoyed fishing, hunting rabbit and pheasants and going to horse and dog races. He was an avid Ohio State University Buckeye fan and also a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians teams.
He began his career in 1954 in Shawnee, Ohio working for the former Standard Oil Company of Ohio (SOHIO), which is now BP and worked in numerous locations in the surrounding area including Galion, Crestline and lastly in Bucyrus, retiring after 47 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters and one son-in-law, Debbie Opperman of Ontario and Denise and Shawn Livingston of Galion; one son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Tracie Opperman of Shelby; and two granddaughters, Nicole (Andy) Claus of Galion and Jena Opperman of Shelby; two great-grandchildren, Katelynn and Nolan Claus; and a sister, Juanita, "Jo" Marcum of Bucyrus.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Wed. Aug 1, 2012 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thurs. with Rev. Jerry Penrod, Jr. officiating.
There will also be a Moose memorial service held at 7:30 p.m. on Wed. at the funeral home.
